Steve’s UWD Journey

Steve: I started off as a canvasser, knocking on doors. Which was a little crazy at first, cause I was in sales before I came here, and I was phenomenal at that, and said I need to be a canvasser and prove myself, so I did that. It was fun. Then, I became a salesman. I did that for a couple years. I was always in the top 3 in sales here at Universal Windows. I proved myself, and I wanted to take my skill set to the next level. So, I became the Corporate Sales Manager for our national headquarters here, in Cleveland.

I’m the big ball of energy for the company, I think, right? I have to make everybody happy, and excited.

UWD Motivation

Steve: When I wake up every morning, I don’t feel like I’m going to work. Because it’s, again, I love everybody here, and I feel that I’m respected, and needed within the organization.

I like going into different meetings. Today, as a matter of fact, we had our big canvassers meeting (outside marketers), there was probably 30 young individuals in there. I went in there and told them my story, and just to see the look on all their faces, and let them know that’s where I was. Good things happen if they put in the time, and the positive energy there, and the growth from within, it really makes me excited knowing they’re the next level for us, as far as moving up into different departments, or staying there, or whatever they want to. Maybe going to college if that’s their gig.

UWD Development

Steve: Since I’ve been here, I’ve grown substantially. Night and day difference.  Personally, and in the business aspect as well, the rolls that I’ve taken on and how much I’ve been able to accomplish without having to reach out all the time, and doing it on my own, I think goes a long way. The owners see that and appreciate it.

The Mind of Steve: A Glimpse

Steve: Well, (laughter) when I go to Starbucks, I go by the name of Howard.

Producer: Why do you do that?

Steve: Cause that’s my Starbucks name. When you go to Starbucks, you can be anybody you want for that 10 minutes. You know what I mean? Sometimes it’s Howard, sometimes Frank, if I’m feeling real crazy that day…I’ll go by Frank.

Steve: Is it hot in here?

Producers: Yes! Very hot.

(laughter)

 

Steve: I’m sweating.
